The bottom line is, it’s the people that make the difference

A lot of factors contribute to our history of success. Since 1991, our loyal clients have valued HSC’s commitment to core values, services  focused on delivering predictable outcomes and value, and our dedication to continuous improvement. But none of this matters without great people! I get special satisfaction listening to our clients talk about the professionalism, competence, and interpersonal skills that HSC consultants bring to each engagement.

Quality by design

The successful delivery of large and complex projects requires a unique intersection of skills. We hire and develop our teams so we can bring the full palate of necessary knowledge and skills to each engagement. We focus on four main areas of expertise.

Health Care Domain Expertise

HSC consultants have committed their professional careers to the health care industry.  Most of our senior managers have twenty years of relevant experience.  Our staff are actively involved in industry standard setting organizations like Health Level 7 (HL7), X12, Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), and Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).  This commitment results in specific, deep expertise in current industry issues like HIPAA, ICD-10, and the Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA). Our experts are often asked to speak at regional and national conferences.  Our subject matter experts often contribute publications that you can view or download from our website.

General Management Expertise

Strong project management consultants bring general management background to each engagement.  It is important for HSC consultants to understand the “project” in relation to other organizational forces and priorities.  In the end, executive management is primarily responsible for resource allocation.  Resource requirements for each project must be justified and rationalized in the context of current strategy and priorities. HSC consultants with experience in financial management and accounting; sales and marketing, organizational structure and human resources; strategic, tactical, and operational planning; and organizational communication bring more value to each project.

Project Management Expertise

HSC’s Project Management methodology is standards based, drawing on IEEE and the Project Management guidelines in the Project Management Body of Knowledge.  (PMBOK).  Our management training program includes immersion in principles of project management, and PMP certification.  In addition, our consultants learn how to “right size” the PMBOK methodology to each project.  IEEE and the PMBOK methodologies offer a sound foundation, but management of large-scale complex projects requires the professional judgment that comes from years of experience, and knowledge of the health care domain.

Interpersonal Skills

Teamwork is one of the HSC core values. Our team understands that the successful project is accomplished through teamwork, and can set the stage for future successes. It is often important for the consultant team to understand how to integrate with the client team.  HSC managers accomplish this through team development, camaraderie, and striving for a common goal.  The HSC management training includes communication, leadership, motivation, conflict management, and problem solving.  We believe that teamwork is when success of the team takes precedence over individual success.

We are grateful for our many clients who have trusted us with their critical projects.  Our greatest satisfaction comes from seeing our clients meet their goals, and move their organizations forward.

If you think your organization could benefit from our expertise, we welcome the opportunity to discuss your challenges, and to see if there is a way we can help.
